INFRASTRUCTURE
Transport and infrastructure are the backbone of modern society. The distances in the area are not great and with more initiatives to improve communications, they will become even shorter. Improving the infrastructure that connects Bergslagen is a very important factor for strengthening the economy, increasing freight traffic, and simplifying the commute for work and education.
All north-south transport routes go through Bergslagen, which means that infrastructure is of great importance to the region. In Sweden, 25 percent of all freight trains depart from and arrive in Bergslagen. Bergslagsbanan is the 478 km long railway from Gävle via Falun/Borlänge to Kil and Frövi.
Partnerskap Bergslagsbanan is a collaborative project consisting of 14 municipalities that are in some way dependent on the development of Bergslagsbanan. The partnership project advocates improved access to and on Bergslagsbanan and contributes to the development of the business sector in the region.

The four counties in the Bergslagen region also have a cooperative initiative for passenger traffic, “Trains in Bergslagen,” aimed at increasing intra- and intercounty commuting opportunities. The company is jointly owned by Länstrafiken i Örebro, Västmanlands Läns Lokaltrafik, Dalatrafik and X-trafik. In recent years passenger traffic has increased significantly, much thanks to the Trains in Bergslagen initiative.
Some roads connect several counties while serving as links between larger cities, communities and industries.
The region also has several airports:
Dala Airport in Borlänge, Mora Siljan Airport in Mora, Stockholm-Västerås Airport and Örebro Airport. Stockholm Arlanda and Stockholm Skavsta just outside Nyköping are also just a few hours away.
High broadband capacity is also available throughout the Bergslagen region, which benefits and promotes regional development.
